Threads of Tradition is a visionary project that aims to establish a sustainable Community Weaving Center, Balai Bikin Omadal, dedicated to preserving and promoting the esteemed weaving heritage of the Bajau Laut community. This project seeks to honor the cultural significance of weaving, empower local artisans, and foster community engagement.s.

 

Balai Bikin Omadal is envisioned as a vibrant and inclusive space that celebrates the artistry and craftsmanship of Bajau Laut weavers. It will serve as a hub for cultural exchange, training programs, and collaborative initiatives, providing opportunities for artisans to develop their skills, share their knowledge, and generate sustainable livelihoods. While the weaving program takes center stage, the project also includes additional programs such as Lepa Lepa boat restoration and activities for the fishing community.

 

By embracing the intertwining threads of tradition, craftsmanship, and community, this thesis presents a holistic approach to the revitalization and sustainability of the Bajau Laut weaving heritage. Through the establishment of the community weaving center, the project aims to empower the Bajau Laut community, preserve cultural identity, and create opportunities for socio-economic growth.
