Reinventing urban space: Heritage-led regeneration in Seremban historic core

The historic core of Seremban, as the old city centre, holds invaluable cultural heritage in its architecture, public spaces, and townscape. However, the rapid development of new townships at the outskirts has led to the neglect of this area, resulting in urban decay with abandoned buildings, declining economy, and a desolate urban fabric. To address this issue and boost local pride, economic growth, and tourism, a heritage-led regeneration approach is proposed. This approach aims to conserve local heritage and repair the decaying urban space by introducing a vibrant third place that serves as an urban connector. This third place will reflect the essence of Seremban's old town, incorporating unique local content and community-based programs to strengthen the city's identity as "Bandar Warisan dan Budaya." This revitalization effort seeks to improve the liveability of the core communities and foster a sense of belonging among residents.
