Nexus Hub: Convergence of Shah Alam's Transportation System

This thesis explores the future of urban transportation in Shah Alam, considering the municipality's commitment to transition into a Low Carbon City. It projects that future commuting patterns will be characterized by increased utilization and active travelling, subsequently reshaping intra-city mobility and connections with other locales within Klang Valley. The city's density is predicted to rise with more people choosing to live, work, and leisure in Shah Alam, particularly in Section 14 which houses more than 10% of Selangor's population. With the city becoming increasingly congested, there will be a surge in demand for public transportation, while the rapid growth of e-commerce will also necessitate greater capacity for goods delivery. To address these concurrent adversities, this thesis proposes the introduction of a combined entity: the urban transport hub. The research question being explored is: How will the urban transport hub in Shah Alam be designed to accommodate increased population and the demand for efficient human transport and goods delivery in 2050? The research concludes that this future hub will integrate a key transport node facilitating human transit from Shah Alam to the broader Klang Valley, with a fulfilment centre addressing the increased need for goods delivery in the Shah Alam area.
