Neo Nusantara: urbanizing Serambi Makkah

This thesis is meant to be controversial by providing a detailed explanation of how the Serambi Mekah concept can be applied in Kota Bharu without borrowing from other, more foreign Islamic influences. This thesis will illustrate and outline the process of developing Neo-Nusantara Architecture with the purpose of making a long-lasting and well lauded public gathering space. Redefining the term Serambi Mekah to reflect the concept of fusing local Islamic teaching with Malay culture and tradition to portray a sense of place for Kota Bharu is necessary to improve the urbanizing quality in Kelantan and make the state's capital city, Kota Bharu, more appealing to tourists. A fresh take on public madrasah that serves as a place for people of all backgrounds and religions to come together to learn about Islam through the lens of Malay tradition. A meeting place for people of all backgrounds to learn from one another and discuss their experiences. As a tourist destination, it helps spread the word about Kelantan's growing culture of learning and appreciation.
