Aerotopia: Airport driven Cityscapes - Redefine Cityscape of Malaysia by introducing airport into urban Areas

The thesis explores the concept of Aerotopia, which suggests airports should be located within cities rather than on their outskirts. The research investigates the technical aspects of incorporating airports into urban environments, with a potential site identified in Kuala Lumpur City Center. The design of the airport aims to seamlessly blend with the city's urban fabric, utilizing a vault structure that spans long distances. The proposed airport considers the diverse movement patterns within the city, accommodating both fast-paced pedestrian routes and slower areas. Spaces like observation decks and sky gardens are included to allow non-ticketed passengers to enjoy views of aircraft and the city's scenery. Locating airports within cities offers economic and social development opportunities, attracting businesses, investment, and tourism, as well as serving as a hub for cultural exchange and international connections. Overall, the concept of Aerotopia revolutionizes airport design by creating a stronger connection with the people it serves and offering a unique experience that reflects the city's identity.
