Hawkertecture: cultural foodways reclamation for revitalizing everyday community-oriented dining place

The project's goal is to reclaim a city's rights through the creation of a Public Dining Area centered around food cuisine. The design process focuses on revitalizing urban spaces by incorporating various hawker components that encourage a more natural and communal way of eating. The aim is to enhance the overall livability of the city by promoting better food consumption practices.

The proposed architecture involves a flexible framework that can be replicated and adapted to different types of hawker setups in Malaysia. By doing so, the project seeks to ensure that hawker culture can sustain itself and foster a strong sense of belonging, identity, and community among the people. Cultural sustainability is a key element of this vision, as the project aims to preserve and promote the unique cultural heritage of the city while creating a more sustainable and inclusive urban environment.

The Public Dining Area serves as a gathering space that brings people together through the shared experience of enjoying food. It celebrates the diversity of food cuisines and culinary traditions found in Malaysia, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere where locals and visitors alike can connect and celebrate the city's rich cultural tapestry.

Through this initiative, the project envisions a city where food is not only a means of sustenance but also a powerful tool for building and strengthening social bonds, fostering a strong sense of community, and promoting a sustainable urban lifestyle. By empowering and supporting hawker culture, the project contributes to the overall well-being and resilience of the city's social fabric while enhancing its unique identity in the global context.
